Another Football Tournament Success

Gilbert Ward Academy pupils celebrated another fantastic football tournament success last week, taking part in the Year 10 and 11 event with a squad made up of younger players from Years 7 to 10.

The team produced an outstanding performance throughout the morning, playing 10 matches in total. Their efforts resulted in an impressive record of five wins and two draws, demonstrating both determination and teamwork against older opposition.

Leading the scoring charts was Leyton, who netted an incredible seven goals during the tournament. His highlights included a remarkable long-range strike from the opposition goalkeeper's box, as well as a superb hat-trick. Leyton's attacking display was a major factor in the team's success.

Additional goals came from Phillip, Mason, Benny and Kevin, all of whom made valuable contributions in front of the goal and helped the team compete at a high level throughout the event.

The success was very much a collective effort, with Rory and Brian plying important roles and working tirelessly for the team in every match. Special recognition also goes to Jack, who spent the majority of the tournament in goal. His excellent shot-stopping ability and numerous saves helped keep the team competitive and secure several positive results.

It was another brilliant tournament for the squad, with every player representing the school with pride, commitment, and excellent sportsmanship. Well done to everyone involved on a fantastic achievement.
