Our school is committed to ensuring that all pupils, regardless of their background or the challenges they face, make good progress and achieve high attainment across all subject areas. We recognise that some of our pupils are disadvantaged and face additional barriers to learning, which may affect their academic performance, behaviour, and well-being. Therefore, we have developed a pupil premium strategy to support these pupils and help them overcome these barriers, as well as to provide them with opportunities to enrich their learning and development.

Our pupil premium strategy is informed by evidence-based practice, personalisation, and inclusion. We use research and data to inform our decisions and actions, ensuring that our interventions are effective and aligned with the best available evidence. We also monitor and evaluate the impact of our spending regularly and adjust our strategy accordingly. We recognise that each pupil has unique strengths, needs, and preferences, and we tailor our support, accordingly, taking into account their individual circumstances and goals. We promote a culture of inclusion and belonging, where all pupils are valued and respected, and have equal access to opportunities that enhance their well-being and education. We also work in partnership with other agencies and organisations to provide holistic support for our pupils and their families.

Our intended outcomes for our pupil premium strategy are as follows:

  • Disadvantaged pupils will make significant progress in becoming fluent readers, with an emphasis on phonics and foundational reading skills. They will also develop a love of reading and access a wide range of texts across the curriculum. To achieve this, we will provide high-quality phonics and reading teaching and interventions, using evidence-based programmes and approaches, and ensuring that all staff are trained and supported to deliver them effectively. We will also provide access to a rich and varied curriculum, with opportunities to engage with different types of texts and genres, and to develop critical thinking and comprehension skills.
  • Disadvantaged pupils will have fewer and less severe behaviour incidents and will be able to manage their emotions and impulses more effectively. They will also feel safe and supported in school and have positive relationships with their peers and staff. To achieve this, we will provide additional support and guidance for pupils with behaviour and SEMH needs, such as mentoring, intensive one-to-one and group withdrawal sessions, and positive behaviour support strategies. We will also provide access to safe and calming spaces within the school, where pupils can de-escalate and self-regulate when they are feeling overwhelmed or distressed. We will also provide training and coaching for staff to better understand and respond to the needs of pupils with behaviour and SEMH needs, and to promote a consistent and positive approach across the school.
  • Disadvantaged pupils will have improved social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) outcomes, and will be able to identify, express, and regulate their emotions in appropriate ways. They will also have access to specialist support and interventions when needed and will be able to cope with challenges and setbacks. To achieve this, we will provide opportunities for pupils to develop their social and emotional skills, such as resilience, empathy, self-esteem, and communication, through the curriculum and extra-curricular activities. We will also work closely with parents and carers, and provide them with information, advice, and support on how to support their children's reading, behaviour, and SEMH at home. We will also work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies, such as educational psychologists, social workers, and CAMHS, to ensure that pupils receive the appropriate level and type of support for their needs.

We will measure the impact of our pupil premium strategy using a range of indicators, such as standardised reading assessments, school-based assessments, behaviour data, SEMH data, attendance and punctuality data, parent and carer feedback, and external feedback. We will review our pupil premium strategy annually and publish our pupil premium strategy statement and impact report on our school website, in line with the Department for Education's guidance.
